MAN SETS SELF ABLAZE FOR FAILURE TO SECURE A JOB

A man ‘baptised’ himself in petrol before setting himself ablaze in a bid to commit suicide after his uncle had ridiculed him for failing to secure a job.

Police spokesperson confirmed the incident which happened last Saturday and said Garikai Gwenzi, had since been treated and discharged from a nearby clinic. It is understood that sometime late in December, Garikai who stays with his uncle told him that he was not prepared to go into farming, but would instead look for jobs for survival. Garikai then left for Tilbury Farm in the same district in search of part time jobs, but it was mission impossible as he failed to secure one.

He returned home empty-handed last Friday. “His uncle was not amused and sarcastically asked him to share what he had brought from his job seeking mission. The move did not go down well with Garikai who decided to cut short his life. He poured petrol upon himself and set himself on fire.

He sustained burns on the neck and back. His uncle came to his rescue and took him to a nearby clinic where he received treatment and was discharged,” he said. Asst Insp Kadzuraumera encouraged members of the public to solve their misunderstandings amicably. “We urge members of the public to find more peaceful ways of solving their problems or seek advice from relatives. They should not to resort to suicide,” he said.
