Aziza Kibibi was only eight-years-old when her father – an MTV award-winning music video director – started defiling her. By 10, Aswad Ayinde’s lessons teaching his daughter ‘how to be a woman’ turned violent and his regular defiling produced five children out of inc*st in a perverse attempt to create a ‘pure’ bloodline.

Ayinde, who is also known as Charles McGill and won fame after directing The Fugees’ ‘Killing Me Softly’ video, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on July 26, finally ending Kibibi’s nightmare.

The incredibly brave woman, who is now 35, married and running a promising baking business, spoke out about the traumatic childhood this week for the first time.

Kibibi revealed her childhood started off relatively normal. She lived with her mother and father on the third-floor of an apartment in Paterson, New Jersey, with her Jamaican immigrant grandparents living below.

Kibibi was home-schooled but still allowed to play with the neighbourhood children. When her family grew to include eight children they moved into a bigger apartment in the same building.

It was when Kibibi started to mature that her father started giving her unwanted attention.

‘He told me I was special. Initially, it was to teach me to be a woman,’ she said. ‘By the time he started having intercourse with me, he was getting more and more violent. When I would start fighting him, he would hit me. It was more about threats.’

Her father began to change, and became more controlling over the family. He moved them out of their grandparent’s apartment to another house in Paterson before relocating to Eatontown in Southern New Jersey. The children were only allowed to watch a small amount of TV, and nothing that depicted traditional family life.

Modern medicine was outlawed in the house, and he actually told his wife that his relations with Kibibi were to treat her eczema.

Kibibi wasn’t the only one Ayinde was having s*x with. He had a mistress – a Manhattan lawyer whom he had another two children with – and was also abusing one of Kibibi’s sisters.

He called himself a polygamist and a prophet. His family was allowed to pray to god but could only do so through him.

‘He said the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen,’ his ex-wife, Beverly Ayinde testified at a 2010 pre-trial hearing. She said he was attempting to create a ‘pure’ bloodline by procreating with his daughters.

When Kibibi’s first child was born without defects, Ayinde took it as proof and continued to r*pe the girl to get her pregnant.

But the following children would not be so lucky. Two further daughters born from her father would be diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU) a disease that prevents the body from breaking down amino acids. PKU can cause brain damage and seizures.

Dr. Anna Haroutunian, a PKU specialist who has treated Kibibi’s children, said they definitely got the disease because of inbreeding.

PKU is a recessive gene, so both parents must have the gene in order for it to pass along to the child. The gene only appears at a rate of 1 in 4,000 worldwide and is must lower for African-Americans. Likely Kibibi’s paternal grandfather had the gene.

Over the years, Kibibi became obsessed with escaping. She would sleep just because her dreams were better than real life.

‘I’d dream about running away. I’d dream about getting all my brothers and sisters — one of my sisters was a baby, and I was taking care of her — I’d dream about growing br**sts and getting milk and running away with them somewhere,’ she said.

When she was older and one of her sons fell sick, she finally got the courage to take him to the hospital since Ayinde was out of town on a business trip.

But she didn’t know how to interact with the doctors and a social worker stepped in, alerting the Department of Youth a Family Services.

When Ayinde returned from his business trip he was enraged, and threatened to forcibly remove his son from the hospital.

Child services stepped in before he could do that and placed them in separate homes.

After that Kibibi, her mother and her sisters moved away from Ayinde as she attempted to get her children back.

Her performance in state-mandated courses and counselling impressed the government officials and eventually her children were returned to her.

‘She has been an exceptional mother,’ Haroutunian said. ‘She was so attentive and patient, it’s remarkable. For a young girl – with all she’s had – she has been just wonderful.’

Having to fight to get her children back also empowered Kibibi, and translated to her life after abuse. She now lives in East Orange, New Jersey with her husband.

She went back to school for her GED and will finish her liberal arts degree from Essex County College this fall. She also runs her own baking business and plans to start a restaurant someday.

Kibibi and her sister decided to finally bring charges against their abusive father. They delayed pressing charges since they were unsure the affect it would have on the children.

She shared her story in hopes of making a difference with those in a similar situation.

‘Instead of just being an experience that I had, maybe this strengthened me. What doesn’t break us makes us stronger.’

56 killed by Boko Haram in mosque, village attacks

extremists have stormed a mosque and
shot dead 44 worshippers as well as 12
other people in a nearby village in
Nigeria’s restive northeast, officials
said on Monday.
The attacks at the weekend were
believed to be in revenge over citizen
vigilante groups forming to help the
military battle Islamist extremist
group Boko Haram, which has been
waging an insurgency since 2009.
“Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram
members entered the mosque and
opened fire on Muslim worshippers,
killing 44,” a senior government
official said on condition of anonymity
because he was not authorised to speak
publicly of the attack in Konduga on
Sunday.
“We believe the attack was not
unconnected with the cooperation
residents are giving to security
operatives in identifying and arresting
Boko Haram members in their midst.”
A local official said suspected Boko
Haram members also raided Ngom
village in the nearby Mafa district and
shot dead 12 people on Saturday night.
“Boko Haram members came into
Ngom village … and shot dead 12 people
on Saturday night,” the official said,
also on condition of anonymity. He said
they were shot at their homes.
Some residents spoke of the attackers
in Konduga arriving wearing army
camouflage, a tactic they have used in
the past to disguise themselves, though
those details had not been officially
confirmed.
The violence came as Nigeria’s military
pursues an offensive in the country’s
northeast aimed at ending the
insurgency, with a state of emergency
declared in the region in May.
In recent weeks, the military has
encouraged the formation of vigilante
groups to help authorities locate and
arrest members of Boko Haram.
The vigilante groups have been credited
with reducing the number of attacks,
but some have warned that the
situation could spiral out of control
and lead to further violence.
Boko Haram’s insurgency has left at
least 3,600 people dead since 2009,
including killings by the security forces,
who have been accused of major abuses.
The military has claimed major
successes with its offensive, but its
version of events is difficult to verify
with authorities having cut phone lines
in many areas and access to remote
locations restricted.
While the number of attacks appears to
have declined, violence has nonetheless
continued, including three recent
deadly school attacks.
In a video obtained by AFP on Monday,
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau
claimed a series of recent deadly
attacks on security forces in the
northeast and insisted that he was in
“good health” despite the offensive.
The video contained what Shekau
claimed was footage of Boko Haram
gunmen opening fire on the military in
the town of Bama, using heavy weapons
mounted on flat-bed trucks.
Shekau also referred to fighting in the
towns Baga and Gamboru Ngala near
the border with Cameroon.
The Boko Haram leader has been
declared a global terrorist by the
United States, which in March put a $7
million (5.3 million euros) bounty on
his head.
“I’m challenging Obama,” Shekau said
in the video. He voiced similar
challenges to French President Francois
Hollande and Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu.
“They are no match for me,” he
proclaimed.
Boko Haram has claimed to be fighting
for the creation of an Islamic state in
Africa’s most populous nation and
largest oil producer, though it is
believed to have various factions with
differing aims.

ASUU:we wont call off asuu strike until FG act accordingly

The academic staff union of universities has blamed poor funding to the educational system for the falling standards in the sector.members of the union have been on strike for over six weeks, as they continue to protest against the non-implementation of the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement which borders on the improved funding of universities and other issues.
the present ASUU strike is beyond salaries and allowances of lecturers. since the 2009 agreement,government have set up fact finding missons to ascertain the state of nigerian universities and reports have been submitted,yet the authorities in the education sector seem to have shunned implementation of the reccomendations.
the needs assessment comittee went round the universities in the country and what it found was shocking. mr uche omeje the acting chairperson of ASUU in ESUT told a news conference.
first,it was found that the teacher-student ratio on the average was 1:400 instead of 1:40.it found that the classrooms were grossly inadequate,and could accomodate only about 30% of the people that needed to enter those classrooms.while most students were standing in their lecture theatres,other students write on their backs as lectures were held under trees in some universities.
omeje went on to cite cases, where some university laboratories used kerosene stoves instead of bunsen burners.they found chemistry labs without water.they found people doing exams called theory of practicals instead of practical,they found heaps of feaces in places where our future leaders are produced.
with overcrowded classrooms dilapitated infrastructure,ill motivated staff and students,nigerian universities have fallen to the standard of routine producers or unqualified school leavers.those who can afford it especially government officials take their children to neighbouring countries for their university education.this is why we are on strike.
he stressed that FG must honour the past agreement it had with ASUU four years ago saying that it is despicable and an expression of lack of integrity on the government's part to renege its promise.

Federal University of Technology, FUTO to Produce Electric Car

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri has concluded plansto produce an electric car which would be known as ¡°AFRICAR¡±.This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. C. C. Asiabaka during an interaction with a delegation from the Department of Automobile Engineering, Technical University, Munich, Germany who were in the University on a collaboration visit to the University. Hefurther disclosed that the collaboration with Technical University, Munich, Germany would enhance the quality of the electric car tobe produced by the University as four (4) FUTO Ph.D students will be working with selected postgraduate students from the Technical University, Munich, Germany on the project. He disclosed that a major fallout of the project would be thedevelopment of a functional Department of Automobile Engineering by FUTO. He also notedthat the project would be a marriagebetween research and the Industry.
In his presentation, the Team leader of the delegation from Technical University, Munich, Germany stated thatthe ¡°Africar¡± project was a specially designed concept for developing an electronic vehicle in meeting about 95% mobility needs of the people of the sub-Saharan Africa.He further stated that similar projectshave been completed in Europeand Asia and the ¡°Africar¡± would be affordable, environmentally-friendly with electronic architecture and produced with local content materials. He also added that the ¡°Africar¡± project has been designed to meet the peculiar needs of Nigerians.
The Project Co-ordinator of the ¡°Africar¡± project, Engr Prof O. M. I. Nwafor stated that the realisation of the ¡°Africar¡± project would mark a major breakthrough in technological advancement in the country with FUTO in the driving seat. He added that the tripartite collaboration between FUTO, Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Technical University, Munich, Germany would strengthen the final phases in the production of the ¡°Africar¡±.
In his contribution atthe occasion, the Rector of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Rev Fr. Dr Wence Madu disclosed that the project would revolutionise the automobile industry in the country.

KASU is inviting all candidates who chose Kaduna State University to the screening exercise as follows:

1. FIRST CHOICE in all degreeprogrammes.

2. Scored 180 and above in the 2013/2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Sale of Scratch Cards
This will commence on Tuesday, 6th August 2013 and close on Tuesday 20th August 2013.

Eligible candidates are expected to purchase a scratch card of N2,200.00 only (i.e. N1,000 for registration/ screening, N1,000 for result checking and N200 bank charges) from Unity Bank branches atBakori House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, Zaria Main branch and Kafanchan Main branch or at KASU Consult inKaduna and Kafanchan campuses.

Method of Registration

1. Eligible candidates MUST complete the online form as failure to do so automaticallyforfeits his/her chance of being allowed to participate in the Post UTME Screening Exercise.
2. After purchase of scratch card, click on the REGISTER NOW button below; to enter your JAMB Registration Number and PIN Number.
3. An eligible candidate is requested to upload his/herscanned COLOUR passport photograph with WHITE background in JPEG format which should not exceed 10KB.
4. On uploading the passport, a candidate is expected to first preview, confirm, and then click on the CONTINUE button to complete his/her application.
5. Your o'level results and the Screening Exercise subjects must be entered. If you are awaiting for your O'Level results, indicate by typing AR against the subjects.
6. No complaint of wrong or blank picture or wrong information entered will be entertained after submission.
7. Application website will close by midnight on Tuesday 20th August 2013.
The registration slip and thebank teller will be demandedof the candidate to identify him/her at the screening centre to enable him/her to participate in the exercise.The photograph uploaded will be the only valid ID for all admitted candidates throughout their stay in the University.

There's a new Domestic Violence Law in
Lagos State, and it states that if you beat
your wife, you will go to Jail. It is now an
offense for any man to hit his wife.
According to the deputy governor of Lagos
State, Hon Joke Orelope-Adefulire, the
Domestic Violence Law is made not only to
protect women who are most times the
target of violence in the home but also to
safeguard the interest of men, children,
servants, maids and everyone who may be a
victim of domestic violence.
In case of man/woman abuse issues, it does
not matter whether there's a valid
contracted marriage between the victim and
the perpetrator of the act as long as they are
living together in a home setting.
Here's what happens when there's a case of
domestic violence.
1. Remove the abuser from the home
pending when the abuse is corrected
2. Or remove the complainant from the
residence and put in a protective home
3. Provision of financial assistance by the
state via the Office of the Public Defender/
Legal Aid Council to victims of abuse who
maybe financially unable to seek redress in
court.
4. The court can issue warrant of arrest and
remand order

ASUU May Call Off Strike Before Or After Sallah

Indication emerged yesterday that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may call off its ongoing strike before or soon after the Sallah celebration, as the federal government may have caved in to the demands of the union by meeting about 60 per cent of what it is asking for.

This was the outcome of a closed-door meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday and Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam; Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqqayat Rufa’i as well as some other ministers over the current industrial action being embarked by ASUU.

Other ministers who were at the meeting with the president on Monday evening included the minister of finance and the coordinating minister of the economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu.

No official statement was issued at the end of the meeting, as Suswam, Okonjo- Iweala and Wogu declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting despite effort made by State House Correspondents to make them talk.

A reliable presidency source told LEADERSHIP that, at the meeting, President
Jonathan directed Suswam and the ministers to do all they could to ensure that strike is called off by the union, saying that Jonathan was very worried that the ASUU strike was distorting the academic calendar, his immediate
constituency.

While in their custody, embattled Rivers State law maker Chidi Lloyd claims he was blindfolded, battered and tortured by the Nigerian police and for that, he wants N50 billion as compensation.

His legal team made this known today after Chidi Lloyd was granted bail by a Rivers State high court. The presiding judge also ordered that the majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly should not be rearrested by the police. The case was adjourned till August 12th.

Human tongue, an arm and a woman’s private part has been found in the house of an herbalist identified as Chief Dandola Owotomo aka Amuludun, in Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu-Igbo North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State. 

Owotomo, 65, was arrested at his residence in Oke Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area by policemen from Atan Police Division following a tip- off.

The man was picked up by policemen after his house was searched where a shrine was uncovered with fresh human parts. Police discovered a calabash in one of his rooms where a fresh human tongue, human palm and a woman’s private parts were kept in a shrine drenched with blood assumed to be human blood.

Meantime, residents of the area have begun deserting their houses to neighbouring for fear of kidnappers and ritualists in the area.

Usher and Tameka Raymond's 5-year-old son, Usher Raymond V, was rushed to the hospital after almost drowning in the family pool...

Usher's son Usher Raymond V is in the ICU at an Atlanta hospital after a serious accident in the singer's pool Monday, TMZ has learned. Sources say the accident occurred around 6 PM yesterday. Usher was not home at the time.

The child was playing in the pool with his aunt and saw a toy in the drain. He dove down to get the toy and his arm got stuck in the drain. The aunt immediately dove in to rescue him but couldn't get his hand out. The maid then dove in and tried but was also unsuccessful.

The maid screamed for help. Two men working in the house came out, dove in and freed the boy. He was given CPR immediately and rushed to the hospital. Usher arrived and drove in the ambulance with his son.

5-year-old Usher Raymond V is the oldest of Usher's two sons with ex-wife Tameka Raymond. We're told Usher and Tameka are currently at the hospital.

Doctors have been running a series of tests and doctors say he'll be ok.

This is the second accident to strike a child in Usher's family. Tameka's 11-year-old son Kile from a previous relationship passed away last year from injuries sustained during a jet ski accident.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged
ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm
on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on
Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an
intelligence report.




At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of
different banks with which he allegedly
withdrew a total sum of five hundred and
fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found
in his possession. Eight signed UBA cheques
belonging to sundry persons were also found on
him. Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc
Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has
volunteered useful information.

He will be charged to court as soon as
investigation is concluded.
